Hello everyone!

In recent years, there has been increasing contemplation in Russia about how to develop open source projects—trusted repositories are being created, the regulatory framework is being clarified, and specialized organizations are being established that promise to foster the ecosystem for developing open source projects.

The Angie web server was originally conceived as an open source project—we believe this ensures a high level of quality for our products. However, during the release of the first versions, dialogues with partners, and discussions among ourselves, we realized that not everyone understands what open source software is and what is so important about it.

Together with the editorial team of N+1—the most authoritative science media outlet in Russia—we will explore the world of software development using open source principles over the course of a year. We will discuss history, economics, security, as well as the philosophy and ethics of such projects. We will examine how the interests of states and large corporations affect these projects. And, of course, we will try to understand what will happen to such projects in Russia.

The ultimate goal of our work is to create the first research in Russia on the culture of developing open source projects. We invite everyone who is genuinely concerned about this topic to join the dialogue.

While we prepare our first materials (which we will start publishing closer to September and will announce again), you can read other news on the N+1 website. For example, about how a mannequin was made to sweat in the name of science.
